Hard words for a self obsessed society, and self-centered people. The path to true life is to deny ourself and take up our cross and follow Jesus. He takes up his cross and we must take up ours. Yet the calculation is critical: Jesus makes it clear there are two choices: this life or the next. To possess everything in this life means losing the next. But to follow Christ is to have the next life and this one thrown in, assured that by not being ashamed of Jesus and his words he will not be ashamed of us as our judge.
