Advent reminds us that we are in a season of preparation for Christ's coming. Ancient Israel was not ready. They were hardhearted, a condition where truth cannot penetrate. What hope was there in their resistance to God their Creator and Redeemer? First, he spoke his word to them. Second, he offered the possibility of repentance. Third, cleansing and a new heart.
