The Apostles Creed affirms two truths about forgiveness: First, I am sinful and in need of forgiveness. Second, a truth about God: he forgives. Forgiveness  is pardon in a personal setting, where two parties are reconciled. Why should we care? God's forgiveness means no condemnation, we don't have to hide the truth about ourselves, we don't need to manufacture our own identity, our relationship with God is restored.
