The message of the cross is foolishness to those perishing, but to us being saved it is the POWER of God. The paradoxical message of the savior of the world being executed by those he came to save--and of forgiveness in his name--is powerful to save, yet rejected by the world as offensive and stupid. Yet--God in his wisdom has decreed that we know him not through human wisdom but only through the declaration of the crucified Christ, before whom all are equal in their need.
