A Daily Guide to the Fruit of the Spirit

2017 Summer Sermon Series: Fruit of the Spirit Daily Guide: SELF-CONTROL

Here is a helpful guide as we work with the Holy Spirit to allow him to form his nine-fold fruit in our lives. Each day there is something to say, pray, read, reflect on, and act on. The first two don't change; scroll down to see the new readings and questions for each week.

SAY and REMEMBER

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit." (Galatians 5:22-25)

PRAY

Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.

Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.

Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

(prayer written by John Stott)

ACT

Weekly Challenge -

  • Why is it often important to flee sources of temptation and guard our eyes and ears?
  • How, if at all, have you opened your eyes or ears to sources that encourage sinful thoughts?
  • What true, good, or praiseworthy things could you think about instead (for example, meditate on Colossians 3:1-2)? Where is your joy?
